I want to start by saying how grateful I am for this incredible community. The way you show up for our students, support our events, and encourage learning at home truly makes MNES special. We are so lucky to be in this together. And good luck to our students competing in the Black History Month Trivia Contest — we’re hoping to be repeat champions! I also want to give a big shoutout to our STEAM Cup team for their hard work and effort this past week. We are so proud of you!

Third and fourth graders have started their recorder unit in music. Please help students remember to bring their recorder and booklet each week. Fourth graders who were here last year are using the recorder they already have, but if one has been misplaced, Mrs. Gregory has extras — just send her a quick message.

We are also excited to kick off One Book, One Louisa! Every elementary student will receive a book to read together as one community, and our big celebration will be March 24th and 25th at the Goochland Drive-In Theater. Stay tuned for daily clues about the book and movie — it’s going to be so much fun!

I also want to give a huge thank you to our PTA for hosting such an incredible Talent Show. It was a fantastic night filled with talent, confidence, and so much community pride. We are so grateful for the time and energy our PTA pours into making opportunities like that happen for our students. This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, calling with a few updates as we head into another great week at MNES.

I want to start by saying how grateful we are for this incredible community. The way you support our students, our events, and our school truly makes MNES special. We are so lucky to be in this together.

First, a quick reminder that Monday, February 16th, is now a regular school day, and we are excited to have our Foxes here learning and growing.

On Tuesday, February 17th, we will celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day. Students are encouraged to wear their Kindness Day shirts and complete one random act of kindness to brighten someone’s day. I can’t wait to see our school shining with kindness.

Then on Wednesday, February 18th, we celebrate SRO Appreciation Day. We are so thankful for Deputy Holmes and the dedication he brings to keeping our young Foxes safe every single day. If you see him, be sure to help us say thank you.

Looking ahead to Friday, February 20th, it’s a big day! That morning from 7:30 to 8:00, we’ll have our Isibindi Den Breakfast. Students should wear their den shirts or colors for our den day competition.

That evening at 6:00 PM, our PTA Talent Show takes the stage, and we cannot wait to see our Foxes shine. This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, calling with a few updates as we head into another great week at MNES.

I want to start by sharing just how lucky we are. Last week was School Counselor Appreciation Week, and we are so blessed to have Mrs. Funkhouser and Ms. Greer supporting our students each and every day. Their care, kindness, and dedication truly help make MNES such a special place. And speaking of kindness, this week is Kindness Week, which is always a favorite around our school.

Looking ahead, our 5th Grade Black History Month Quiz is open now through February 13th. I encourage all of our fifth graders to give it their very best effort as they learn, grow, and challenge themselves.

We’re also continuing our Go Nutty for Reading Challenge with a goal of eight books, and I can’t wait to see if we can beat last year’s numbers. Thank you, families, for encouraging reading at home. This is Mr Street, your proud principal, bringing you an update from MNES. Firstly, we hope you and your family are safe during this time of winter weather. We are so ready to welcome our Foxes back to school!

We are preparing for an additional Remote Learning Day, and I want to take a moment to thank you and your family for your incredible flexibility and dedication to making sure that your child has continuity of learning. We know that learning at home is different and we appreciate your efforts.

Instructions for Home Learning: Your child has received a large envelope containing learning resources tailored to their grade and developmental level. As you review these instructions, please know that we are here to support you, and if you need any assistance at all, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Here is how to use the packet:

Locate the Packet: Find the large envelope your student brought home.
Check the Labels: The packet contains materials for multiple days. Please look at the top right-hand corner of the pages to find the label (e.g., "Day 3," "Day 4").
Complete the Work: Students should complete the assignments for the designated day to the best of their ability.

Meal Distribution Details

Location: Louisa County Middle School (LCMS)
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2nd
Cost: Free for all enrolled LCPS students (PK–12)

Important Pick-Up Information

Children do not need to be present for parents or guardians to receive meal bags.
Families will be asked for the child’s name and the school they attend at pick-up. No ID is required.
Please park in the LCMS bus loop and walk to the LCMS Forum entrance (1009 Davis Highway, Mineral, VA), where staff will meet you with meal bags.

As always, we encourage families to check all items before serving, especially for students with food allergies.

The Fox Family Focus: Week of January 18, 2026

Good evening, Fox families!

I hope you’re having a relaxing Sunday evening. This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I’m grateful to share a few updates as we head into the week. I truly feel lucky to serve such a supportive and caring community. The way our families, students, and staff show up for one another makes MNES a very special place. And I also want to say thank you for the kind words, notes, and support during Principal Appreciation Week. I felt very loved and very blessed.

I want to start with a reminder that there will be no school tomorrow, Monday, January 19th, as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Later this week, we will be conducting a lockdown drill. This is only a drill and is part of our regular practice to help students and staff stay prepared. Our team will guide students through it calmly and safely.

Also this week, we will begin growth testing in grades 3 through 5. These assessments help us see how much our students have grown. Families, we appreciate your help in reminding our young foxes to get a good night’s rest, take their time, and put forth their best effort. That effort truly matters.

On Friday morning, January 23rd, our kindergarten students are invited to attend a Royal Tea Party as a culminating event for their Kings and Queens unit. Dressing up in royal attire is welcome but not required — it’s sure to be a fun and memorable experience for our youngest foxes.

This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, with a few updates for the week ahead. I hope our students had a great first week back. It was so good seeing smiling faces, friends reconnecting, and classrooms full of energy again. Those moments remind us what makes MNES such a special place. Let’s keep that excitement going as we move forward together.

Looking ahead to this week, on Thursday, January 15th, the PTA will hold its first meeting of the 2026 school year, and it will be held virtually. The focus will be on upcoming events for the remainder of the year. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to consider joining the PTA and downloading the Box Tops app. It’s a great way to stay connected and support our school.

Then on Friday, January 16th, Ice Cream Friday begins for the second semester. Families will have the option to purchase ice cream, and our students are already pretty excited about that.

Please remember there will be no school on Monday, January 19th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I also want to remind families that yearbook orders are now open through February 28th. These books capture so many special moments, and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break—time to rest, recharge, and make special memories with family and friends. I am truly excited to welcome our students back and kick off the second semester together.

I want to remind families that Monday, January 5th, and Tuesday, January 6th, are teacher workdays. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 7th, and we cannot wait to see our young foxes back in the building. Report cards will be coming home on Friday, January 9th.

A quick reminder for our second-grade families: for the next five Fridays, students will be attending swimming lessons at the YMCA. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our front office—we’re happy to help.

As we begin a new semester, this is also a great time to get connected. If you haven’t already, we encourage families to sign up for the PTA and download the Box Tops app. These are simple ways to stay involved and continue supporting our school community.

Good evening Fox families,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying a wonderful Sunday evening. As we head into our final week of the first semester, I just want to say how proud I am of our students and how grateful I am for the incredible partnership we share with our families.

I want to start by celebrating some amazing news— we have 14 MNES students whose artwork is currently on display at the Louisa Arts Center! This is such an exciting honor, and we are so proud of each of these students for sharing their creativity with our community. A special thank you to Ms. Ward for her hard work and dedication in making this opportunity possible for our students.

I also want to remind everyone about our division-wide Holiday Spirit Week coming up this week:

Wednesday: Favorite holiday sweater

Thursday: Pajama Day

Friday: Fun and festive holiday wear. We can’t wait to see our Foxes spreading holiday cheer!

Parents, as we look ahead to next semester, I want to share a quick reminder that on two-hour delay days, breakfast is not offered. Thank you for helping us plan ahead on those mornings.

A reminder for our 2nd and 3rd grade families—our musical performance will take place on Thursday, December 18th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see everyone there as our students shine on stage.

The Snowball Express Holiday Shop will continue Monday through Wednesday of this week to make up for days lost due to snow. If your child has library resource one of those days, or was unable to shop earlier, they will have another opportunity this week. We are also still in need of volunteers. I want to wish all of our families a very happy holiday season. Please remember that schools will be closed from December 22nd through January 6th for Winter Break. Good evening Fox Families! This is your proud principal, Mr. Street.

I hope everyone enjoyed our first snow of the year. There’s something special about that first snowfall—it just brings a little extra magic to the season. I hope your families had fun in it, and I’d love to hear your snow day stories or see a few pictures from your adventures. I certainly missed everyone, and I can’t wait to see our Foxes back in the building on Monday. We’ve got two more weeks until winter break, and we’re ready to make them count.

This week kicks off our benchmark testing for grades 2–5, along with our DIBELS testing schoolwide. These assessments help us see how our students are growing and guide our instructional decisions for the rest of the year. We just need our Foxes rested, on time, and ready to give their best effort. A good night’s sleep and a little encouragement from home truly goes a long way, and we appreciate your partnership.

Don’t forget—our Gingerbread Decorating Project is underway, and it’s always a favorite. We cannot wait to see those creative, colorful gingerbread designs displayed throughout the building.

A big shout-out to our amazing PTA as they get ready for the Snowball Express Holiday Shop this week! Students will shop during their library resource time. I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving break. We’re excited to welcome our Foxes back tomorrow—rested, recharged, and ready to jump back in. We’ve got three weeks until Winter Break, and this stretch is always full of energy, fun, and important learning.

Over the next few weeks, students will be taking their mid-year assessments. These help us see how much they’ve grown and how we can continue to support them. A good night’s sleep, arriving on time, and a little encouragement from home makes a big difference, and we truly appreciate your partnership.

We also have a fun family activity coming home—our Gingerbread Decorating Project. This is always a favorite. Our families get so creative, and our students love it. We can’t wait to see all the amazing gingerbread designs displayed throughout the building.

This is your proud principal, Mr. Street. I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. I want to start by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of your generosity during our food drive, we were able to put together several food baskets to support Fox families in need. That kind of love and community spirit is exactly what makes MNES feel like home, and I am so grateful for each of you.

I also want to thank everyone who came out to PTA Movie Night. It was such a joy to see our students laughing, families spending time together, and our school full of life. A huge shout-out to our amazing PTA for organizing such a fantastic evening. Just a quick reminder that we have school on Monday and Tuesday this week, and then we will be off Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving Break.

Moss-Nuckols Fall Food Drive

As we move into November, we are collecting non-perishable food items to help create Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for MNES families. Items like canned vegetables, boxed stuffing, mashed potatoes, pasta, and other pantry staples can be dropped off in the boxes at the front of the school by November 19th.

The Fox Family Focus: Week of November 16, 2025

I want to start by sending a big thank-you to the Charlottesville Ballet for visiting MNES last week. It was truly magical watching our young Foxes light up during the excerpts from The Nutcracker. Their excitement filled the whole building, and it was such a special experience for everyone.

Here are a few reminders for the week ahead:

Thursday, November 20th – We will have our PTA Meeting, followed by our 4th Grade Musical. Families may arrive between 5:30 and 5:45 for the musical, and the show will begin right at 6:00 PM. We are so excited to see all the hard work our 4th graders have put into their performance.

This week, please check your child’s Fox Folder for information about First in Math, an online program we are using to help students build and practice essential math skills at home and at school.

Friday, November 21st – We will begin the morning with our Amistad Den Breakfast from 7:30–8:10 AM, followed by a special Den Day activity. Please have your child wear their den shirt or den color on Friday.

That evening, from 5:30–7:30, we are excited for PTA Movie Night! A big shoutout to our PTA for adjusting the date last week to support the football game — their flexibility and commitment to our students and staff is truly appreciated. And if you haven’t already, please consider joining the PTA and downloading the Box Tops app. They are working hard toward their goal of 200 members, and every family helps.

Saturday, November 22nd – Our Varsity Lions will take on Huguenot in the second round of the playoffs right here in the Jungle at 1:00 PM. This is a big moment for our community, and we can’t wait to cheer them on. Some of our 4th and 5th graders will also have the incredible opportunity to hold the flag before the game, more information about that will be coming soon.

Throughout November, we are collecting non-perishable food items to create Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for MNES families. Items can be dropped off in the boxes at the front of the school through November 19th.

And as always, please remind your child to check the Lost and Found for jackets, hoodies, and other items that may be missing.

Before I close tonight, I want to speak from the heart. Our teachers and staff are the soul of this building. Their kindness, creativity, and dedication make MNES feel like home every single day. I am truly the luckiest man on the planet to serve alongside such an extraordinary team. Thank you for allowing me the honor of serving this community.

This is your proud principal, Mr. Street. I just want to start by saying how thankful I am for this incredible community. Our young Foxes inspire us every single day, and it’s a joy to watch their kindness, curiosity, and hard work shine. I truly feel like the luckiest principal in the world to serve such an amazing group of families, students, and staff.

Here are a few reminders for the week ahead:

This Tuesday, November 11th, we invite all veterans of our young Foxes to join us for our Veterans Day Lunch. If you plan to attend, please remember to bring your ID to check in at the front office.

Then on Friday, November 14th, interims will go home, and it will also be a division-wide Green and Gold Spirit Day across LCPS as we get ready to cheer on our Varsity Football Lions in their first round playoff game against Caroline in The Jungle! Let’s show that there’s no school division anywhere with more enthusiasm or pride than ours!

Looking ahead to next week, our Amistad Den Breakfast will be held on Friday, November 21st, from 7:30 to 8:10 a.m.

And throughout November, we’re collecting non-perishable food items to help create Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for MNES families. Items like canned vegetables, boxed stuffing, mashed potatoes, pasta, and other pantry staples can be dropped off in the boxes at the front of the school by November 19th.

While you’re planning ahead, please don’t forget to join our PTA, download the Box Tops app, and be on the lookout for upcoming PTA events—they’re always a great way to connect and support our Fox community.

Veterans Day Lunch

I hope everyone had a great weekend. What a fun and busy October we had at MNES! Our Book Character Day was such a hit, and I loved seeing all the creativity in our Disguise a Ghost and Pumpkin Character activities. Thank you to all of our families who joined in the fun and helped make those moments so special. Be on the lookout for our next family activity — Disguise a Turkey! It’s always amazing to see what our Fox families come up with.

I also want to thank our community for showing so much kindness and generosity during Kindness Month. Your support means so much to our school and to each other.

A few reminders for the week ahead:
There will be no school on Monday, November 3rd, or Tuesday, November 4th for Election Day. We’ll see everyone back on Wednesday, November 5th. That day, we’ll begin our Fall SOL Growth Testing, which will continue through Thursday, November 6th. We’ll also have Fall Makeup Picture Day on Thursday, November 6th.

I want to start tonight by saying how thankful I am for our amazing community. Last week, we came together to support CASA, and it was incredible to see so many donations pour in for such a meaningful cause.

I also want to take a moment to thank two very special groups—our wonderful cafeteria team and our dedicated bus drivers. During National School Lunch Week, our cafeteria staff gave students a “taste of the world” with food, fun, and lots of smiles. And for School Bus Safety Week, a huge thank you to our drivers who keep our young Foxes safe every single day. We appreciate you!

Book Character Day is this Friday October 31st. Students are welcome to dress up as their favorite character. Please remember masks, face coverings, and toy weapons are not allowed. And any outside food for celebrations must be store-bought, labeled, and turned in 48 hours in advance.

We hope everyone is enjoying First in Math—it’s been exciting to see our students challenging themselves and having fun with numbers.

This week, we’re wrapping up our Kindness Month with a focus on Kindness for First Responders. Students will be making thank-you cards to present at the final home football game Friday night at the Jungle. What a great way to end “Kindness: A Decade of Difference!”

The High School Trunk-or-Treat will be this Tuesday, October 28th from 5:30 to 8, and be on the lookout for Boo Grams sponsored by our PTA coming home this week! This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I just want to start by saying thank you! What an amazing turnout we had at our Fall Festival — over 700 people came out! It was such a great sight to see so many of our families having fun together. A huge shoutout to our incredible PTA and to our entire community for always showing up and supporting our school family. You all make MNES such a special place!

We’re also excited to share that our students now have access to the FIRST IN MATH® online program! This fun, game-based site helps students strengthen their math fluency and problem-solving skills. Each student even gets a free User ID for a family member or friend. Login information and FamilyLink details were sent home with report cards last week.

This week is also National School Lunch Week and National School Bus Safety Week — so please take a moment to thank our amazing cafeteria team and bus drivers. They keep our students fueled, safe, and cared for every single day!

As part of our month-long kindness initiative, Kindness: A Decade of Difference, this week we’re focusing on Kindness for a Cause. We’ll be collecting change and donations for CASA, an incredible organization that helps foster children right here in Louisa.

And on Friday, we encourage everyone to wear your Green & Gold and come out to support our Homecoming football game in The Jungle as our Lions take on Orange! We’ll also be collecting funds at the game for our kindness cause.

Don’t forget to turn in your family engagement project this month — either your Pumpkin Book Project or your Disguise a Ghost Project. It’s a fun way to be creative together as a family.

Join us for our biggest family fun events of the year! This year's Fall Fest will take place on Friday, October 17th, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. There will be pumpking painting, games, trunk or treat, face paint, and even food trucks.
We still needs lots of volunteers to sign up for 30 minute time slots to make our FallFest and trunk or treat happen this weekend. If you’ll be attending, please consider helping out at one of the stations for a half hour. Invite grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, or whoever wants to get involved with our M-NES community to help out!

Way to go, Foxes!

This month, we’re also celebrating Kindness Month, and our division-wide initiative, “Kindness: A Decade of Difference.” Students will take part in a Ten Acts of Kindness Challenge throughout the week of October 13th–17th, and those who complete the challenge can even win a prize. Let’s keep that kindness spreading throughout our school and community!

Looking ahead, the week of October 20th–24th will be our Coin Drive Spirit Week to support CASA, an incredible organization that helps foster children right here in Louisa. Be on the lookout for a flyer with all the theme day details!

This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I want to start tonight by saying thank you. The love and support you showed our custodians this week for Custodian Appreciation Day was incredible. It meant so much to them and to all of us, and it’s just one more reminder of how special this community truly is.

We’ve got another exciting week ahead! In honor of Farm to School Week, we’ll all be dressing like farmers on Tuesday, October 7th. Friday, October 10th marks the end of the first nine weeks, so let’s finish strong. And don’t forget—our Altruismo Den Breakfast will be on Friday, October 17th.

October is Kindness Month, and we are celebrating our new initiative, “Kindness: A Decade of Difference!” This week, we’ll be focusing on spreading kindness to veterans and members of the military. Our Foxes will be making thank you cards and letters that will be shared across our community and throughout the Commonwealth. To cap off the week, we’ll be honoring our military during Friday night’s football game against Goochland. Military members will get in free with ID or in uniform—we’d love to see you there.

Now, let me share some exciting PTA news! On Monday morning, October 6th, PTA is piloting our brand-new Foxy Fuel program from 7:15 to 8:00. PTA is also bringing back Boo Grams, and we’re all looking forward to our Fall Festival on Friday, October 17th from 5:30 to 7:30. Please consider sending in some candy for our candy monsters—we need plenty for both the homecoming parade and Fall Festival fun! The Fox Family Focus: Week of September 28, 2025

Good evening, Fox Family!
This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I just want to start tonight by saying thank you. What an amazing turnout we had at Math and Literacy Night—over 200 people came out! It was such a joy to see families learning together, laughing together, and making memories here at MNES. Your presence means the world, and it’s what makes our school community so special.

As we head into Week 8, I want to remind everyone that the contest for this year’s elementary yearbook cover is open until September 30th. Students can turn in their artwork to Mrs. Thompson, and we can’t wait to see their creativity shine.

October is also Kindness Month across Louisa County Public Schools, and this year is extra special because it marks the 10th anniversary of our Kindness movement. We’ll be taking part in all kinds of meaningful activities—from creating thank-you cards for veterans, to showing appreciation to first responders, to raising money for local non-profits. Each week will bring something new, and I’ll keep you posted as we go. It all kicks off with Kindness Day on Wednesday, October 1st.

And speaking of appreciation, Thursday, October 2nd, is Custodian Appreciation Day. Our custodians are the heartbeat of this school, and I know our Fox Family will join me in showing them plenty of love for the hard work they do every single day.

The Fox Family Focus: Week of September 14, 2025

This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I am so excited as we head into Week 6 with our amazing foxes.

First, I just have to say thank you. GrandHero’s Day was such a special event—we had over 700 Grandheroes in the building, and it was an honor to host them here at MNES. And then, to wrap up the week, our Den Fun Run was a huge success with over 400 people joining us. It was incredible to see so many of our families supporting our foxes and spending time together. Thank you for making both events so meaningful.

Now, as we look ahead to this week, I have a few reminders to share. If you haven’t sent back your SchoolStore lanyards yet, please do so soon. And just a quick reminder about classroom celebrations—any food items must be store-bought with ingredient labels, dropped off at the office 48 hours in advance, and not sent on the bus. This helps us keep all of our students safe. Also, don’t forget to complete your online registration and medical consent forms, since those are required before students can have outside food.

This Wednesday, September 17th, is Constitution Day! We encourage everyone to wear their most patriotic outfit or show off those red, white, and blue colors.

Looking ahead, our Fall Book Fair will kick off the week of September 22nd through the 26th. And on Tuesday, September 23rd, we’ll host our Math and Literacy Night from 5 to 7. Families can grab a free hot dog, browse the book fair, and walk away with strategies to support reading and math at home. It’s going to be a great evening.

Two weeks from now, on Friday, September 26th, we’ll have Picture Day, so go ahead and mark those calendars. And don’t forget—the contest for this year’s elementary yearbook cover is open until September 30th. The 3rd Annual Den Fun Run is almost here!
Happening on Friday, September 12th, with the Fox Spirit Station opening at 5:30 PM; the Fun Run begins at 6:00 PM, and a cookout to follow!

Good Evening Fox Family!

This is your proud Principal, Mr. Street, and I am so excited as we head into Week 5 with our amazing foxes. The first few weeks have been incredible—our students are working hard, families are showing great support, and our staff is giving their all every single day.

A few quick reminders as we move into this week:

Please be sure to send back those SchoolStore lanyards if you haven’t already.

If you plan to send food items for a classroom celebration, they must be store-bought with ingredient labels, brought in 48 hours in advance, and dropped off at the front office—not sent on the bus. This helps us keep everyone safe.

Please make sure your online registration and medical consent forms are completed, as students cannot have outside food without those forms on file.

This Thursday, September 11th, we invite students to wear red, white, and blue for Patriot Day. Interims will go home Friday, September 12th.

And speaking of September 12th, mark your calendars—it’s going to be a big day! That morning we’ll host Grand Hero’s Day from 8:30–10:15, celebrating grandparents and special heroes in our students’ lives. Then that evening, the PTA’s Den Fun Run and Cookout kicks off at 6:00. Don’t forget to check backpacks for registration forms, and remember—the class with the most PTA memberships by the Fun Run wins a pizza party! PTA Website

I’m also thrilled to share that we are holding a contest for this year’s elementary yearbook cover. Students can submit their artwork by September 30th to Mrs. Thompson. We can’t wait to see their creativity shine!

Before I close, I just want to celebrate our incredible staff. The way they teach, support, and love our students each day is inspiring. They make this school so special, and I am honored to serve alongside them.

The Fox Family Focus: Week of August 31, 2025

Good evening, Fox Family!
This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend. I can’t believe we are already heading into Week 4—it has been such a joy to watch our foxes settle into routines, work hard, and show kindness every single day. I am so thankful for our students, our families, and of course, our amazing teachers and staff who pour their hearts into this work. Being the principal of this school is truly an honor.

First, a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 1st, in observance of Labor Day. I hope you enjoy the time with your families.

This week we’ll continue practicing safety routines with a lockdown drill and a fire drill. These are only practice, but they are so important to make sure everyone knows exactly what to do to stay safe.

September 2nd outside food can be bought in. Please remember that if you wish to send in items they must be store-bought with ingredient labels. The items must be brought in 48 hours in advance of distribution. Students may not bring items on the bus, we ask that parents bring in the items and drop off at the front office for the nurse to check.

Also, don’t forget to complete your child’s online registration and medical consent form—students cannot eat outside food at school until those forms are submitted. If you have questions, you can call the nurse at 540-967-1347.

On Thursday, September 4th, we will have our kick off for our SchoolStore program to help our school raise money for our student fund. A lanyard with information explaining how the program works will be sent home with your child on Thursday, September 4th. Your children will earn a participation prize when they return the filled-out lanyard to school, and they can earn more great prizes when your family and friends help our school raise money.

Please don’t forget about Green and Gold Day on Friday, September 5th. We hope to see everyone at the Jungle for the first home football game of the season!

And looking ahead, mark your calendars for Friday, September 12th—it’s going to be a special day! The Fox Family Focus: Week of August 24, 2025

Good Evening Fox Family,

This is your proud Principal, Mr. Street, and I cannot tell you how excited I am as we head into Week 3 with our amazing foxes! The first two weeks have been incredible—our students are working hard, our staff is giving their all, and the energy in this building makes me so thankful to be part of this school community.

This week we’ll keep practicing our safety routines. We’ll have our third fire drill, and while these are just practice, they’re so important to help everyone know exactly what to do to stay safe.

A couple of quick reminders from the office: when you send notes to school, please make sure your child’s first and last name are on them, and remember dismissal changes need to be in by 2:30. This really helps us keep dismissal smooth and safe for every student.

Also, outside food for classroom celebrations will not be permitted until after Labor Day. This gives us time to finalize all student allergy information so we can keep everyone safe.

Speaking of Labor Day, there will be no school on Monday, September 1st, in observance of the holiday.

Then we’ll kick off September with two exciting things—Ice Cream begins on Friday, September 5th, and it’s also our very first Green and Gold Day of the year!

And mark your calendars for Friday, September 12th—it’s going to be a big day! That morning, we’ll celebrate Grand Hero’s Day, where we invite grandparents and special heroes in our students’ lives to come join us at school. This is your proud Principal, Mr. Street, and I’m so excited as we head into Week 2 with our amazing foxes! I cannot tell you how proud I am of our students and staff for making the first week of school such a huge success. The energy, kindness, and hard work set the tone for what’s going to be an incredible year.

The Fox Family Focus: Week of August 10, 2025

Good Evening, Fox Families!
This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I can’t even tell you how excited I am for the start of another incredible school year here at Moss-Nuckols. Seeing so many smiling faces at Open House this past week was just the perfect way to kick things off — what an amazing community we have!

Our first official day of school is Tuesday, August 12th. Doors will open at 7:50, the tardy bell rings at 8:10, and dismissal will begin at 3:05. Please make sure your child knows how they’re getting home that day. If you have any questions at all, or if something changes with transportation, just give us a call and also send a note or email so we can make sure everything goes smoothly.

Don’t forget to send back all registration and classroom forms as soon as possible. If anything is missing, we’ll be reaching out to families in the coming days.

This week we’ll also be starting some of our safety drills and assemblies — nothing to worry about, just practicing so everyone knows what to do.

I want to give a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for hosting two fantastic events last week — Popsicles with the Principals and PreK/K Signing Day. If you haven’t joined the PTA yet, it’s only $5 and they do so much for our school. And while you’re at it, consider downloading the Box Tops app — it’s such an easy way to support MNES!

I have to end tonight by bragging on our incredible staff. They have worked so hard to prepare for this school year — the building looks beautiful, the classrooms are ready, and the lessons are planned. But more than that, they bring their hearts to this work every single day. I am so lucky to serve alongside such a talented, dedicated group of professionals, and I want them to know how important they are to our school, to me, and to the entire community. We truly have the best of the best right here at Moss-Nuckols.

Good Evening Fox Families!
This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to welcome both our returning families and those joining us for the very first time to another amazing school year at Moss-Nuckols!

We’ve been busy getting everything ready, and our teachers have truly gone above and beyond to prepare warm, welcoming classrooms where your children will learn, grow, and thrive. I’m so proud of the care and heart our staff has put into making this year special already!

Student placement letters went out last week. If you haven’t received yours—especially if you’re a new Pre-K or Kindergarten family—it may be due to missing enrollment information. Just call the front office and we’ll be happy to help.

Also, please make sure you’ve completed the Returning Student online registration through PowerSchool Enrollment. This helps us ensure everything is up to date before the first day of school.

We’re counting down the days to Open House on Friday, August 8th:

Pre-K & Kindergarten: 8:30–10:30 AM
1st–5th Grade: 3:00–7:00 PM
Teachers will be reaching out soon to schedule times for you to come in, see the classroom, and meet your wonderful new teacher.

This year, we’re also excited to launch a new outdoor learning initiative to help bring more nature into our school and support student well-being. If you have skills in gardening, building, or just want to help, stop by our table at Open House or reach out to our school counselors—we’d love to have your support!

And don’t forget to join us for Popsicles with the Principals, a PTA event on Monday, August 4th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM! We’ll meet on the big playground if it’s sunny, or in the cafeteria if it rains. It’s a great way to say hello and connect before the first day. While there, stop by the PTA table and sign up and get involved this year!

Families, thank you for trusting us with your children—we are ready for a joyful, engaging, and meaningful school year together. The best is yet to come!

School Supplies Information

Greetings M-NES Families! Today, we are excited to share with you our school supplies lists for the 2025-2026 school year. We hope these lists will be helpful to you as you prepare for the exciting, upcoming year at M-NES!

As an important note, with the installation of weapons detectors at our school, we also would like to provide you with a few updates that will help guide you as you make your purchases in the near future:

- All three-ring binders should be 1.5 inches or less.
- When possible, please use plastic water bottles. If you do purchase metal water bottles, please opt for small/medium-sized bottles.
- Please avoid purchasing wheeled, rolling backpacks if possible.
- Please do not purchase adult-sized scissors. Instead, opt for blunt, small/medium-sized scissors.
