Good evening, Fox Families!
This is your proud principal, Mr. Street, calling with a few updates as we head into another great week at MNES.

I want to start by sharing just how lucky we are. Last week was School Counselor Appreciation Week, and we are so blessed to have Mrs. Funkhouser and Ms. Greer supporting our students each and every day. Their care, kindness, and dedication truly help make MNES such a special place. And speaking of kindness, this week is Kindness Week, which is always a favorite around our school.

Looking ahead, our 5th Grade Black History Month Quiz is open now through February 13th. I encourage all of our fifth graders to give it their very best effort as they learn, grow, and challenge themselves.

We’re also continuing our Go Nutty for Reading Challenge with a goal of eight books, and I can’t wait to see if we can beat last year’s numbers. Thank you, families, for encouraging reading at home. Along with that, don’t forget our First in Math Challenge, open now through March 2nd, which is a fun way for students to build confidence and strengthen their skills.

On Thursday, February 12th, students are encouraged to wear their Kindness Day shirt as we celebrate spreading kindness throughout our school.

Our online book fair opens on February 9th, so be on the lookout for more information. Interims will go home on Friday, February 13th, and yearbook orders are open now through February 28th so no one misses out on those special memories. https://strawbridge.fotomerchanthv.com/search/YB34482

Our PTA Talent Show will take place on Friday, February 20th, and we can’t wait to see our Foxes shine.  If you’d like to show off your talent please submit forms by Friday, February 13th. Families are also encouraged to join the PTA and download the Box Tops app—every little bit helps support our school.

Don’t forget about our Family Engagement Project, where students are creating a heart filled with things they love. Those can be sent in now through February 25th.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, just a quick reminder that due to student allergies, we ask families to send non-edible treats only, such as stickers or pencils, and to check with teachers about celebration dates. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

We’re also excited to share that LCPS has begun accepting preschool applications for the 2026–2027 school year. If your child is eligible, please visit the LCPS preschool website to get started.

Finally, mark your calendars for our Den Breakfast on Friday, February 20th, celebrating our Isibindi Den.

Before I close, I just want to say how grateful I am for our teachers and staff. They bring big hearts and high expectations every single day, and I’m truly thankful to serve alongside them.

Thank you, Fox families, for your continued support. Let’s make it a great week by showing kindness, working hard, and taking pride in being part of the MNES family.

Foxes out!
